Beach in October in New England...Seriously!

by Ellen Sharpe, October 23, 2008
I love going to farm stands and antiquing on crisp, cold fall days but on the Indian summer days of fall and early winter, you can find me at the beach. No crowds, no sunscreen, warm water and long shadows in the sand.

These pictures are from Wingersheek in Gloucester from just a week ago. This is by far, one of the best beaches in the area. The water is calm and crystal clear and rivals any in the Caribbean (OK maybe with the exception of the beaches on St. John.). Picture below: Kenna jumps into a tide pool.

Kenna walks on a baby private beach and heads into the waves to get her clothes wet. Rocks and crystal clear water.
I love beach combing and we found really cool stuff. A small piece of driftwood that we'll drill and hang from leather cord. Shells that we made into necklaces by stringing them on embroidery floss (thanks seagulls for drilling perfect holes...I knew you were good for something other then eating sandwiches and pooping on rocks!). Oh and clams, did someone say steamers and beer...YUM!! You can't get fresher then this! If you intend to clam at all on your own in Gloucester you should contact the 24 hour shellfish hotline first to check on red tide conditions and bed closures (978) 281-9741.
